Kyle Doherty scored the only goal after 26 minutes as we suffered our second defeat in a row and failed to score in cinch League 2 for the first time this season.

Dale Carrick missed a penalty just two minutes after we had fallen behind – he was brought down by Cammy Binnie but he sent his kick wide of target.

Rovers had skipper Aron Lynas red carded for an off the ball incident with 20 minutes left and we had Adam Cummins dismissed in the last minute for a second booking.

We went into the game without the suspended Jordan McGregor and the injured Martin McNiff while Leo Watson was on Scotland U19 duty so James Creaney was at left-back.

Binnie made a fine save from a Jack Leitch header inside 60 seconds but Rovers hit the post before going ahead when Doherty’s low shot from 18 yards beat Blair Currie.

Nathan Flanagan missed a good chance to equalise early in the second half but Currie made a smart stop from Max Wright and Brian Reid’s men defended well to claim their fifth clean sheet in six games.

The last half four was played out in reduced light after a partial floodlight failure but the clear autumn day meant there was little danger of the match being abandoned.
