Programme notes from Saturday’s game against Elgin City

A very warm welcome to the Directors, Management, players and supporters of Elgin City. With our match versus Cove Rangers earlier in the month having been postponed due to the monsoon conditions, Gavin Price’s men provide the opposition for our first home game of 2020.

We come into the game on the back of three away wins on the trot and still maintaining the amazing statistic of being the only “senior” Club in the UK not to have conceded a first half goal in an away league match this season! The time has arrived to improve our home record!

With Elgin having lost to an injury time goal at home to Stenhousemuir last weekend, we climbed back to 5th in the league table, only a point behind Annan Athletic in 4th – and with a game in hand. Quite a turnaround from our league position after our last-minute defeat to Edinburgh City the weekend before Christmas, when we trailed Annan by seven points, having played the same number of games.

For a change, some relatively good news on the injury front. Kevin Nicoll, who hobbled off in the dying minutes of last weekend’s match at Annan has mercifully not broken any bones in his foot as first feared. He does, however, have severe bone bruising and soft tissue damage but at least we’re not looking at a prolonged spell on the sidelines.
Whilst our recent form has been impressive, and productive in respect of points gained, no one is getting carried away; a glance at the SPFL2 table identifies that one loss can lead to a temptation to look down instead of up! Be assured, however, everyone at Forthbank is solely focussed on the latter.

With January nearly behind us, I suspect that most supporters’ halos on New Year’s resolutions will have slipped at least a little, if not totally. For my part, I’ve long since stopped making any! I do, however, have a very short “To Do List” for 2020…

1. Get into the promotion Play Off spots
2. Stay there!
3. Win the Play Offs
4. Consolidate our position in SPFL1

Too much to ask? Not at all. We started the season with the target of promotion and nothing has changed on that front.

C’mon the Binos!
