Stirling Albion are bidding to make it three wins in a week when we head north to play Elgin City at Borough Briggs on Saturday.
We’ve taken 19 points from the last 21 available since losing at Peterhead on December 22 to move to within a point of the play-offs, with fourth-placed Annan away to Cowdenbeath this weekend.
Kevin Rutkiewicz: “It was a very hard game against Albion Rovers in midweek and we want to keep the momentum going at Elgin. We have given ourselves a chance (of the play-offs) but that’s all it is.”
Team news: Midfielder Kevin Moon and defender Lee Hamilton remain on the sidelines and Jason Marr is still short of full fitness. Striker Peter MacDonald is doubtful after going off against Albion Rovers on Tuesday with a hamstring problem.
Recent meetings: We were 3-0 winners at Borough Briggs on September 1 thanks to first-half goals from Cammy Thomson, Peter MacDonald and Jordan Allan (penalty). We trailed 2-0 at Forthbank in December but stormed back to win 5-2, helped by a Darren Smith double on a day when City had Jordan Lowdon sent off. We have lost just one of our last nine meetings with Elgin – a 3-0 reverse up there last March.
Opponents: Elgin are sixth in the table, one place and five points behind the Binos but with a game in hand. Their home record this season is four wins, one draw and six defeats. City made a disappointing start to 2019 but drew their last Borough Briggs fixture 3-3 with Edinburgh City and were 3-0 winners at Albion Rovers last weekend thanks to a hat-trick from defender Darryl McHardy. Shane Sutherland joined League 2 rivals Peterhead during the transfer window.
Referee: David Munro
Admission prices: £12 adults & £7 concessions. Free for U16s.
Stadium: Borough Briggs is a gem of a ground and you can still change ends at half-time.
Catering: Tends to be very good. Sausage rolls are recommended!
Weather: Looking like a very pleasant day. Forecast is mild with sunny spells.
