Stirling Albion v Annan preview

Stirling Albion are seeking a third straight win when Annan Athletic visit Forthbank on Saturday.

We have beaten Elgin City and Queen’s Park in the last two matches after losing our first four fixtures in Ladbrokes League 2 this season.

Team news: Midfielder Ronan Hughes, on loan from Hamilton Accies, is likely to be added to the squad. Evan Horne – who is set to sign a contract next week – could again feature as a trialist. Darren Smith remains on the injury list while Darren Barr and Lee Hamilton are also out. Willie Robertson is rated a doubt.

Dave Mackay: “We were very good in the first half against Queen’s Park last week and ground it out in the second half, limiting them to very few chances. That’s two wins and two clean sheets in the last two games – we want to keep that run going and climb the table.”

Past meetings: We lost 3-1 at Galabank in April when Blair Henderson scored a hat-trick but we have an excellent home record against Annan. We’ve notched up seven Forthbank wins on the trot in this fixture, including a 3-0 success when we last met here in February.

Opponents: Annan boss Peter Murphy was named Manager of the Month for August after guiding the Galabankies to three wins and a draw but they have lost their last two games to Clyde and leaders Edinburgh City. Their summer signings included Chris Johnston (Dumbarton), Tommy Muir (Dalbeattie Star), Tony Wallace (East Kilbride), Ross Fergusson (Queen of the South), Max Wright (Clyde) and Kyle Bradley (Rangers, loan).

Stirling Albion return to action on Saturday when Queen’s Park are our visitors in Ladbrokes League 2.

We are looking to build on our 3-0 victory at Elgin a fortnight ago and earn our first home win since beating Clyde 2-1 at the end of February.

Team news: Last season’s top scorer Darren Smith remains on the sidelines but Darren Barr and Kevin Moon both played for the reserves on Tuesday and should be available. Mark Stewart and Jason Marr could also come into contention but Lee Hamilton is a doubt with a foot problem.

Dave Mackay: “We were excellent in our last game against Elgin but our home form has been nowhere near good enough for a long time and we need to put that right. Queen’s Park will be on a high after their result in Wales last week but we are in a much better frame of mind after the result and performance at Elgin.”

Past meetings: The last meeting between the teams was a 1-1 draw at Hampden in April 2016 when Steven Doris equalised after Chris Duggan had opened the scoring. The most recent Forthbank encounter was a 0-0 draw in January 2016.

Opponents: Queen’s Park are fifth in the table, with two wins, two draws and one defeat so far. Gus MacPherson’s men claimed a notable win away to The New Saints in the IRN-BRU Cup last weekend, knocking out the Welsh champions on penalties to set up a third-round tie against St Mirren Colts. The Spiders made more than a dozen new signings this summer, including Adam Martin (Alloa), Josh Peters (Forfar), Smart Osadolor (Clyde), Jordan Hart (Ayr United) and Scott McLean (Albion Rovers).

Referee: Lloyd Wilson
