Andrew MacDonald takes a look at how our Reserve players fared out on loan at the weekend.
Reserve skipper Callum MacDonald made an instant impact on his Cumbernauld Colts debut as he helped the Lowland League side defeat Arniston Rangers 4-0 in the second round of the South Challenge Cup. The midfielder played 70 minutes and scored the opening goal for Colts, with his effort from a tight angle smashing in off the crossbar early in the second half. MacDonald also bagged an assist during a bounce game earlier in the week.
Bradley Rodden has also made a fine start with Wishaw, as the forward found the net from close range in his second match against Glasgow Perthshire last weekend. The lively striker played the full match, with reserve team-mate Aaron Neil getting a run out. The match was abandoned near the end with the score at 2-2 due to two bad injuries. Wishaw currently sit 15th in the West Region League One table, with two wins from seven.
Central midfielder Mitchell MacDonald was also on the goal trail this weekend as his side defeated Muirkirk 2-0 in the league. The Johnstone Burgh player expertly opened the scoring by floating the ball over the keeper into the top corner of the net. The Burgh are sixth in the West Region League Two table after seven games.
Versatile defender Brooklyn Mair was on the wrong end of an agonising 3-2 league defeat to Whitburn on his Kennoway Star debut. Mair played 70 minutes at right wing-back and gave a typically hard-working performance. He will look to influence proceedings from the full-back and wing-back positions this season and hopefully help Kennoway rise from the foot of the East Region Superleague table.
Elsewhere, Justin Watson is yet to feature for Petershill while Reserves coach Andy Todd will look to finalise loan deals for most of his squad in the coming weeks.
