From the February edition of The Albion magazine
The shortest month is shaping up to be not only the busiest but in all likelihood the pivotal month in respect of our promotion prospects.
At the time of writing, we have already played two games this month – an honourable 1-1 draw last Saturday against Arbroath at Gayfield in appalling overhead and underfoot conditions and a remarkable 7-0 demolition of Montrose on Tuesday evening with Darren Smith claiming the headlines with a rapid fire hat-trick.
Darren was rightly named man of the match but every player played a part in as good a performance as we’ve produced all season. No one needs reminded, however, that aside from the boost to our goal difference, we done no more than bag three (valuable) league points.
As things stand, we’ve three more scheduled matches still to come in February (Berwick Rangers, East Fife and Annan Athletic) and the the postponed home fixture versus Clyde rescheduled for the 23rd, with the trip to Elgin rearranged for March 8th.
As ever, I extend a warm welcome to everyone associated with Berwick Rangers FC and Clyde FC.
In other news, our Annual Dinner is fast approaching – Friday 18th March at the Golden Lion – and for more information please check out the official website or contact the Club on 01786 450399. A great night is guaranteed and at the same time you will be helping your Club with its major fundraising event of the year.
In closing, I wish to make brief reference – at this early stage – to the off-field incident towards the end of Tuesday evening’s match. The incident, as well as being damaging to Stirling Albion, does nothing to help the very positive reputation our band of young supporters have worked so hard to build.
Such mindless behaviour will not be tolerated and the perpetrator, when identified, will be reported to Police Scotland for consideration of criminal proceedings. To the young supporters who attend to enjoy the matches and create a great atmosphere, I’m sorry you were caught up in this but please be reassured you will always be welcome at Forthbank.
