Binos boss Greig McDonald admits Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Raith Rovers at Stark’s Park in the first round of the Ramsdens Cup was hard to take.
With extra time looming, winger Joe Cardle lashed home a last-gasp winner just two minutes after Jordan White had levelled from the penalty spot, with Kevin Moon having given the hosts a 74th-minute lead.
McDonald said: “I thought we competed well and were unlucky not to take the game into extra time. We pushed a very good Raith side close and it was two mistakes that gave them their goals.”
Raith manager Grant Murray said: “We showed great character, especially after they scored late on. This is a competition we want to do well in so I’m really pleased with the victory and with some of our play.”
Stirling skipper Jamie Bishop revealed on Twitter that he had suffered a cracked rib during the game and we lost full-back Ross McGeachie to a first-half head knock that required stitches, but both are hoping to be fit to face Hamilton in the first round of the Scottish League Cup at Forthbank on Saturday.
Our sub goalkeeper yesterday was Michael Lee, a former Raith youth team player who has been training with the Binos and was listed as a trialist on the team sheet.
