Our 2005 squad’s pre-season preparations continued on Thursday evening with a visit from neighbours, Alloa. The Binos would eventually run out 2-1 winners in what was a highly-competitive fixture.

The first half saw good passages of play from both Stirling Albion and Alloa as the sides made great efforts to get the ball down and play attractive, passing football.

Chances were created at both ends of the park with the Binos getting most of their joy through Finlay Barr on the left wing. Callum Hendry, who played the first half between the sticks for the home side, pulled off a great save to keep the scoreline level but could do nothing about the close-range strike that gave Alloa the one-goal advantage at half-time.

The second half mainly belonged to the home side, though, with Jojo McKay scoring a double that secured a 2-1 victory for Stirling Albion. His first was a fine finish across the face of goal, having cut in from the left-hand side of the box. His second strike was even better as he sent a lovely chip over the Alloa goalkeeper after Calum Leadbeatter had released him with his through ball.

Coach Jamie Baxter said: “As coaches, we were delighted for the boys to get their first win under their belts as a reward for all their hard work since joining the club. However, what was even more pleasing was seeing some of the things we’ve worked on at training happening on the pitch and seeing how hard the boys worked for each other. They fully deserved their win and should take confidence from that moving forward.”

Next up for the 2005s is an extremely challenging home friendly versus elite club, Hearts.
