Everyone at Stirling Albion was deeply saddened to learn that our former director John Smith had passed away at the weekend at the age of 77.

John served the club with distinction for more than 20 years, joining the board in the late 1980s and stepping down in the summer of 2010.

During that time, under the stewardship of Peter McKenzie, Stirling Albion moved from Annfield to Forthbank and enjoyed a number of seasons in the First Division.

John was Scottish Football League president between 2002 and 2007 and also served on the Scottish FA Board during the many years he was involved in the game.

A popular and well-known figure throughout Scottish football, John was a real gentleman who made many friends in boardrooms up and down the country.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very difficult time.
