| 4th June 2008 | Chairman
Wants To Step Down Stirling Albion FC Chairman Peter McKenzie has officially announced that he wants to step down as chairman and guarantor and make his majority shareholding in the club available for sale to any interested parties. It has been known for sometime that the chairman would listen to any offers for his shareholding although he has not officially announced his intention to step down until now. Last year a consortium did have negotiations with Peter McKenzie about purchasing his shares and talks did reach a crucial stage but no deal eventually materialised. Now though Peter is hoping that someone or a group of people will come forward again, who would be able to invest serious money in the club and take the club forward within Scottish football. 81-year-old Peter has for many years now been the clubs sole financier and in the mid-nineties the club were playing full time football under the managership of Kevin Drinkell but this proved unsustainable and the club then fell from Division One back down to Division Three. Present manager Allan Moore joined the club in 2002 and has steadily brought the club back to Division One last season. Being the only part time side in the division proved too much for the side and we finished bottom of the division at the end of the season and thus returning to Division Two. Peter is hopeful that any new owner would see the club return to Division One on a regular basis and that the club will again be a full time side. Speaking this week to the Stirling Observer, Peter McKenzie
said "Although I have always said that I would never leave
the club in the lurch, I have to confess that I have simply
had enough. I am 82 years old this year and the time has come
for an injection of young blood and enthusiasm. The last few
years have been very draining financially and emotionally." The website will report on any progress as and when the information is made available. |
