Inside the Box: Programme notes from today’s game against Cowdenbeath
I extend a warm welcome to the officials, management, players and supporters of Cowdenbeath FC as the last visitors to Forthbank Stadium in 2018.
Unfortunately, due to festive holidays, this piece has had to be written the day after our postponement versus Albion Rovers, so I am unable to comment on our visit to Peterhead. For that reason, I’ll steer clear of on-field matters and indeed be brief!
Behind the scenes, the Club Board are very actively engaged in discussion with the Manager with regards to the playing squad and the upcoming Transfer Window. We are fully supportive, in every sense, of Kevin’s desire to strengthen during this period. A combination of departures, and injuries have left us short in several areas and I can assure supporters that everything possible will be done to rectify this situation, as early as possible in the New Year.
With the Junior Academy and Santa missing out on their pre-Christmas visit to Forthbank on the 15th we have re-scheduled for this afternoon. Fingers-crossed for better weather; whilst I’m sure Santa could live without the overtime, it would be extremely disappointing if the mass visit of Junior Academy players, coaches and parents was postponed a second time.
The end of an era is an oft misused phrase, but it could not be more apt as we bid a fond farewell to Head of Youth (Admin), Stewart Taylor who, after over 20 years as the driving force behind SAFC’s Youth Development, has decided (with a little help from Mrs Taylor!) it is time to “hang up his boots”.
His contribution to the Club’s Youth Development during his time is immeasurable and, on behalf of everyone associated with Stirling Albion, I extend a huge thank you to Stewart for his tireless input! The Club Board are in discussion with Stewart as to how best to formally recognise his long service, early in 2019, but in any event, it goes without saying he will always be welcome at Forthbank as our guest on matchdays.
As Stewart steps down, I’m delighted to announce the arrival of David Gemmell as his replacement. David has big shoes to fill but I’ve no doubt he’ll put them on, tighten the laces and get on with the task of maintaining the high standards set by his predecessor!
The last couple of months of 2018 has seen a very welcome upturn in the Club’s fortunes and I’m very much looking forward with renewed energy and enthusiasm to what 2019 will bring.
