Andrew MacDonald reports on the latest action for our U20 players on loan at clubs across Scotland.
It was a busy week for both Marc Innes and Luke Martin (pictured). The U20 duo were involved in three games for Thorniewood United. The Wood came from behind twice to defeat Lesmahagow 4-3 in a bottom of the table clash on Wednesday. The Robertson Park side were on the wrong end of two 3-1 results on Monday to Greenock and East Kilbride on Saturday.
Martin played his favoured left-back position for these games, whereas Innes played an unfamiliar right-back role on Monday before moving to his favoured central midfield role on Wednesday and Saturday. As has become accustomed during Thorniewood matches this season, Innes and Martin were very competent and hard working during their fixtures this week.
Dillon Young also had a busy week, as he featured in three games for his Wishaw side. The central defender played well and defended astutely in a 4-1 victory over Greenock on Saturday. Wishaw and Young suffered 2-1 losses to recently-promoted St Roch’s on Monday and mid-table East Kilbride Thistle on Wednesday. Only the eight league games for Wishy to complete now this season! Young has a rare midweek rest to look forward as Wishaw only have two fixtures next week.
U20 captain Ryan Lockie was involved in an agonising 3-2 defeat at the hands of Lochee United last Wednesday. Lockie played the full match at centre-back and saw his Camelon side squander a 2-0 lead. The game descended into madness in the second half, as five players were sent off. Camelon weren’t helped by the fact four of their players received marching orders. Ross Cameron was unavailable for this match. The Mariners will look to end the season on a positive note next Wednesday, as they play their last game of the season against Newtongrange Star at Carmuirs Park.
Elsewhere, both Taylor Evans and Justin Watson were unavailable for Shotts Bon Accord duties this week, as their loan side defeated Glasgow Perthshire, but lost to both Blantyre Vics and Neilston in the league. The recent three-game-a-week schedule means Shotts only have three league games to play this season.
