Inside the Box – Programme notes from the April edition of The Albion
Readers will be pleased to learn that I have no intention of using this article to dwell on any of the off-field matters that have been well-publicised elsewhere. My family have endured enough needless heartache and embarrassment thanks to the actions of others but, as my late father-in-law often said, “Life’s too short (to bear a grudge)” and I hope we can all move forward from here with the best interests of the Club at the core of everything we do.
Moving on… March has been as disappointing a month as February was successful. Perhaps there really is something behind the curse of Manager of the Month?! That said, two wins, two losses and three draws in 21 days has seen us consolidate our position in a promotion play-off spot and it would appear likely that one win from the last four games would secure an extension to our season into May.
The Club’s Annual Dinner was held at the Golden Lion on 23rd March and guests were royally entertained by guest speakers John McKelvie, who also acted as MC for the evening, and Jim Leishman. My thanks to everyone who contributed to making the evening a success but especially to our Commercial Director, John Hunter and his team and Colin Rowley of Dron & Dickson, who sponsored the event.
Our Under 20 season is drawing to a close with the possibility of finishing second in their league still very much alive but more pleasing is the number of players getting experience in and around the first team and also out on loan. It augurs well for the future and it will be interesting to see how they transition into Reserve Team football, which is replacing Development League football next season.
During April (and beyond), I very much look forward to working closely with Duncan Strathdee, Interim Trust Chair, as he sets about “re-inventing” the Trust Board. The challenges are numerous but with hard work and a band of willing volunteers already in place to assist, I’m confident we can not only have a new Trust Board in place but also an infrastructure and communications channels that will ensure every step taken will be transparent and in the right direction.
If anyone wants to contact me (01786 450399 or email@example.com) or Duncan (firstname.lastname@example.org) to discuss anything relating to the way forward, please do not hesitate to do so… we’d love to hear from you!
