Peter MacDonald scored twice for the second game in a row as we cruised to victory against Annan to stay third in Ladbrokes League 2.
Defender Ross McGeachie was also on target as we moved five points clear of fifth-placed Elgin City with our fourth victory on the trot.
This was a dominant display by Dave Mackay’s men and the emphatic margin of victory was fully justified against an Annan side who have now lost on their last seven visits to Forthbank.
It was an unchanged team following last week’s 2-1 success at Cowdenbeath but Steven Noble and Sean Dickson returned to the squad. Andy Little was absent due to illness.
Albion forced much of the play in the first half but we couldn’t make the breakthrough. MacDonald saw his 25-yard free-kick come back off the bar and on-loan St Johnstone midfielder Danny Jardine missed a good chance when clean through.
It was a different story in the second period and, after Cammy Binnie had made a fine save from Scott Roberts, McGeachie headed home a MacDonald corner in 56 minutes, with a defender on the line only helping the ball into the net.
MacDonald grabbed the second goal midway through the second half. Ross Kavanagh was tripped in the box by Scott Hooper and although the veteran striker saw his spot-kick saved by Alex Mitchell he followed up to slam the rebound high into the net.
The third goal 12 minutes from time was a beauty. Darren Smith was sent clear on the right and his perfect cross was met by MacDonald, who guided a superb first-time shot into the bottom corner for his ninth goal of the season.
Annan almost got one back late on but sub Ben Armour fired over from close range as their disappointing recent run was extended to one win in seven matches.
We now face in-form Clyde at Forthbank next Saturday and are at home again on Tuesday February 27 when Edinburgh City visit in a rearranged fixture.
