We begin our February fixtures with a crucial game against play-off rivals Elgin City at Forthbank in the first of three home matches this month.
Dave Mackay’s men go into the game on the back of a 1-0 victory over Cowdenbeath on Wednesday while Elgin’s last outing was a 2-0 win against Stenhousemuir on Saturday.
Team news: Experienced defender Darren Barr could make his debut after joining from Morton on a deal until the end of next season. He was one of three January arrivals, the others being Kevin Moon and on-loan St Johnstone midfielder Danny Jardine. Sean Dickson is still a few weeks away from a return to action but Steven Noble and Andy Little aren’t far away.
Previous meetings: It was 2-2 at Forthbank at the end of September when Darren Smith’s double was cancelled out by goals from Chris McLeish and Jordan Allan. Our December 30 visit to Borough Briggs was postponed due to a frozen pitch and a new date is still to be confirmed. It was 2-2 at Elgin in April while a last-gasp Sean Dickson goal earned us a 1-0 win in a midweek match last February.
Opponents: December saw Gavin Price’s side lose 3-0 at Montrose and 4-1 at Stenhousemuir and they were thrashed 7-0 at Peterhead on January 2 but their response has been impressive. City have notched up three home wins on the trot against Clyde, Cowdenbeath and Stenhousemuir and are just outside the top four, below us on goal difference. Their transfer window signings included Andrew McDonald (St Mirren, loan) and Brett Long (Dundee United, loan).
