Stirling Albion’s first fixture of 2018 takes us to Ochilview on Tuesday January 2 to play local rivals Stenhousemuir. Kick-off is the usual 3.00pm.
Dave Mackay’s men make the short journey on the back of a blank weekend after our game against Elgin City at Borough Briggs was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
Team news: Midfielder Andy Black returns from a two-match ban but on-loan St Johnstone left-back Cammy Thomson is out with a hamstring injury and striker Andy Little remains on the sidelines. Defender Lee Hamilton is a doubt with the back injury that forced him off against Montrose recently but skipper Willie Robertson, who would have missed the Elgin game due to illness, should be available.
Previous meetings: We won 3-2 in a thrilling match at Ochilview on the opening day of the season despite trailing 2-1 at the interval. Darren Smith, Callumn Morrison and Ross Kavanagh got our goals that afternoon but the Warriors gained revenge with a 2-1 victory at Ochilview at the end of October.
Opponents: Stenhousemuir are third in Ladbrokes League 2, two points ahead of the Binos but having played a game more. Stenny’s home record is five wins, one draw and three defeats but they have lost just once on their travels. Mark McGuigan is the leading scorer in the SPFL, having netted 16 league goals in 17 appearances for the Warriors. Brown Ferguson’s men beat Elgin City 4-1 at Ochilview in their last outing on December 23 but their trip to Berwick on Saturday was frozen off.
