A controversial late penalty denied Stirling a club record-equalling seventh straight away win as it ended all square at a bitterly cold Broadwood.
Darren Smith broke the deadlock 12 minutes from time against the run of play but David Goodwillie levelled from the spot with four minutes left after Ewan McNeil was penalised for apparently impeding a Clyde player when a high ball was launched into the box.
We were then denied a penalty when Ross McGeachie was held back – referee Greg Aitken waved play on to the anger of Binos boss Dave Mackay and the players.
We were without Willie Robertson, Peter MacDonald, Ross Smith, Scott Davidson, Liam Caddis and Steven Noble through injury. U20 defender Kyle Banner made his first start at right-back and there was a debut for young midfielder George Stanger.
Both impressed, as did goalkeeper Cammy Binnie, who made a number of fine saves as Clyde pushed hard for what would have been only their third win of the season.
Binnie twice thwarted Goodwillie and also made a great stop from Darren Ramsay. Kevin Nicoll hit the post when he should have scored and interim Clyde boss Tony McNally was pleased with his team’s performance.
Darren Smith came close in the first half and Callumn Morrison was always looking to make things happen but the hosts defended well until they were undone in 78 minutes.
Sub Neil McLaughlin delivered a perfect cross from the left and Darren Smith had a simple finish from close range for his 15th goal of the season.
It seemed as if that would be enough to maintain our perfect away record but, although what happened in the closing stages was hard to take, Clyde merited the draw.
We remain two points clear of Montrose at the top of Ladbrokes League 2 and face Peterhead at Forthbank in our next match in a fortnight’s time.
