Stirling came from behind to make it five away wins out of five and stay two points clear at the top of the Ladbrokes League 2 table.
On-loan Falkirk forward Scott Shepherd fired Edinburgh City in front but Ross Kavanagh equalised before half-time and Callumn Morrison struck early in the second half.
Binos boss Dave Mackay made three changes to the team that lost to Stenhousemuir, with Kavanagh, Steven Noble and Sean Dickson replacing Neil McLaughlin, Willie Robertson and Ross Smith.
The latter two were sidelined through injury, along with Peter MacDonald, and there was a place on the bench for George Stanger from our U20 squad.
This was our first visit to Ainslie Park, where City are groundsharing with Spartans while Meadowbank Stadium is redeveloped. Skipper Darren Smith had an effort cleared off the line before James McDonaugh’s men opened the scoring in 18 minutes. Shepherd, who had a spell on loan at Forthbank in 2014/15, lashed a superb shot past Cammy Binnie from 20 yards.
That ended Edinburgh’s five-game goal drought and they almost scored again soon after but Binnie did brilliantly to deny Shepherd and trialist Farid El Alagui picked up the rebound but couldn’t apply the finish as his shot was blocked.
It was a big let-off and we equalised in 37 minutes. Morrison provided the cross from the right and Kavanagh’s volley flew in off the bar for his sixth goal of 2017/18.
The roles were reversed eight minutes after half-time when Kavanagh won the ball on the left flank and picked out Morrison for the on-loan Hearts winger to fire past Calum Antell for his 10th goal of the season.
Clear-cut chances were limited at either end for most of the second half. Chris McKee might have done better with a header for the hosts while Morrison wasn’t too far away with a free kick from 30 yards.
We defended well but it required a terrific save from Binnie to push away Shaun Harrison’s drive two minutes from time and seal another away-day success. Next up for the Binos is the short trip to Broadwood to play Clyde next weekend.
