Andrew MacDonald reports on how our U20 players fared on loan at Junior clubs across Scotland this weekend.
U20 captain Ryan Lockie completed 90 minutes as his Camelon side progressed to the third round of the Scottish Junior Cup with a 4-1 victory at home to Aberdeen outfit Hall Russell United. Lockie put in a fine defensive performance and bombed up and down the left flank effectively. Callum MacDonald played the last 10 minutes of this game.
Midfielder Marc Innes played the full match as his Thorniewood United side also triumphed in the Scottish Junior Cup, with a 1-0 home win against Dundonald Bluebell. Innes’ box-to-box abilities were evident for all to see in this game. Declyn Cumming was an unused substitute for Thorniewood.
Oakley United’s Brooklyn Mair faces a replay against Dufftown after a late equaliser by the hosts. Mair played the full 90 minutes in defence during the 1-1 draw. There was also late heartache for Reg McLaren’s Luncarty, who lost 3-2 in the closing moments to Vale of Leven to ensure their cup exit. McLaren played the last 20 minutes.
Luke Martin’s Newmains United lost a crucial bottom of the table clash 3-1 to Dunipace in the Central District Second Division. Martin played the full game, but team-mate Justin Watson was unavailable.
Elsewhere, it was an afternoon to forget for Alberto Vezza’s Carluke Rovers. The midfielder played the second half as they lost heavily to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. Defender Dillon Young watched on as his Wishaw team drew 1-1 after leading Arniston Rangers. Wishaw play the replay next week.
