Stirling Albion kick off Ladbrokes League 2 with a local derby against Stenhousemuir at Ochilview on Saturday as we aim to build on an impressive Betfred Cup campaign.
SPFL sponsor Ladbrokes rate Dave Mackay’s men an 8/1 shot to go on and win the title, behind Peterhead (6/5), Stenhousemuir (4/1) and Clyde (5/1).
Team news: Andy Little remains sidelined and Ross Cameron, top scorer for the U20s last season, is out with an ankle injury picked up in the closed-door game against Queen’s Park last weekend.
Previous meetings: We won 2-1 on our last visit to Ochilview in January 2015 thanks to goals from Gordon Smith and Craig Comrie and also won 5-4 in August of that season but those were our only two away league victories all season and the outcome was relegation.
Opening day: We lost 3-2 at Annan last season and 1-0 at home to Clyde in 2015/16 but those are our only two defeats on the first weekend of the league campaign in the past eight years.
Opponents: Stenhousemuir were relegated after an eight-year stay in League 1 and are second favourites with the bookies to go straight back up. Warriors boss Brown Ferguson has had a busy summer in the transfer market, bringing in no fewer than 13 players. They include ex-Albion No 1 Chris Smith and fellow former Binos Eddie Ferns and Mark Ferry, along with Ross and Michael Dunlop from Albion Rovers.
Message from Stenhousemuir: “Due to construction work at the building site adjacent to Ochilview, we are unable to access Gladstone Road on Saturday and a walkway will be created to allow pedestrian access only. We are unable to offer disabled parking near the ground and apologise for the inconvenience but this is outwith our control.”
Away fans: Albion supporters will be housed on the terracing.
Prices are adults £12, concessions £7, and U16s £6
Referee: Lloyd Wilson
