Stirling Albion host Inverness Caley Thistle on matchday two of the Betfred Cup on Tuesday evening, kick-off 7.45pm, as we bid to bounce back from Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Falkirk. The other Group A fixture sees Brechin City take on Forfar Athletic in a local derby at Glebe Park.
Format: A reminder that all drawn games in the group stage go straight to penalties, with the winners receiving a bonus point.
Team news: Striker Andy Little won’t feature as he continues his recovery from injury and the game is likely to come too soon for defender Ross Smith. Ross McGeachie is expected to be fit despite picking up a knock at Falkirk and Monday’s new signings – goalkeeper Mark Foden (Ross County, loan) and Lee Hamilton (Berwick Rangers) – could be added to the squad.
Previous meetings: Only once since Inverness joined the then SFL in 1994 have the clubs been in the same league and that was Division Two in 1998/99. The Highlanders won a Scottish Cup tie 6-1 at Forthbank in January 2007 but it was 0-0 in the same competition in 2015/16 before Caley Thistle won the televised replay 2-0 at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.
Opponents: John Robertson took over from Richie Foran following ICT’s relegation to the Championship and they kick off at home to Dundee United on August 5. Caley Thistle began their Betfred Cup campaign with a 3-0 win over Brechin and face Falkirk this weekend. New signings so far this summer are John Baird (Falkirk), Mark Ridgers (Partick Thistle), George Oakley (AFC Wimbledon), Collin Seedorf (RKC Waalwijk), Matty Elsdon (Middlesbrough, loan), Riccardo Calder (Aston Villa), Zak Elbouzedi (West Brom) and Joe Chalmers (Motherwell).
Referee: Mike Roncone
Admission: Adults £10, concessions £5, U16s free
Fans: Only the West Stand will be open. ICT fans should use turnstile 3, which is towards the Monument End.
Weather: Warm and sunny!
