Programme notes from today’s friendly match with Motherwell at Forthbank

Here we go again! Eight weeks to the day since we played our last League 2 match of season 2016/17, we welcome Motherwell FC to Forthbank for our first pre-season game of 2017/18.

Motherwell are bringing their full first team so this provides a great opportunity for Dave Mackay to see how his squad is shaping up, albeit only a week into training and with still a few gaps to fill in respect of player recruitment.

A lot has happened in close season, including eight contracted players moving on, Ross Forsyth opting to seek a new challenge, and Frazer Wright replacing him as assistant manager. I extend my thanks to all of the personnel who have left for their services during their time with the club and wish them all the very best whatever the future may hold for them, inside and outside of football.

As many of you will be aware, Ross may have moved on but will be returning at some point having been granted a testimonial match. Our new assistant manager Frazer Wright is no stranger but has recently announced his retirement from playing to concentrate on his coaching responsibilities. I’m sure everyone associated with SAFC will join me in wishing him every success, at least as long as those responsibilities are with us!

Last weekend saw the advent of the first Binos Live Community Event in association with Scribbler’s Picnic. The turnout was excellent (nearly 2,000 over the course of the day) and the feedback has been great from those attending. There are way too many people to thank individually for the blood, sweat and tears that went into the planning and delivering of the event but I would like to make special mention of our club sponsor, Prudential, without whose contribution Binos Live could not and would not have happened!

Season ticket sales have been excellent to date. Still plenty of time to get yours, if you haven’t already, with our first home league match scheduled for 12 August against Berwick. Please keep an eye on the website and Twitter for updates on sales and collection times!

Thanks to everyone for coming along today – hopefully encouraged by the attractive pricing! – and I extend my best wishes to Motherwell FC and their supporters for the coming season!

C’mon the Binos!
