We can confirm that six players have already agreed new deals for next season and Binos boss Dave Mackay hopes more will soon follow suit, with talks ongoing.
Goalkeeper Chris Smith is among those who have not been offered terms for 2017/18 and the manager explained: “It was a really difficult decision and the only reason that has come about is because Cammy Binnie is pushing him so hard.
“Chris has probably been our best and most consistent player this season. I believe we have the two best goalkeepers in the league and one of them is a young guy who really needs to play or else we are going to lose him, and he could be a real asset for the club.
“I wish all the players leaving all the best wherever they end up. They have never given me a problem but sometimes it’s in the best interests of everyone to get a fresh start – hopefully they can get tied up with new clubs.”
Jack McCue and U20 captain Sam Davidson will be invited to pre-season training and given the opportunity to earn contracts, while experienced defender Frazer Wright is unlikely to continue as a player but could potentially join the coaching team.
