Clyde 3 Stirling 2

Clyde progressed to the last 16 of the Scottish Cup as we paid the price for a dismal first-half performance in Tuesday’s fourth-round replay at Broadwood.

Barry Ferguson’s side will now face Ayr United at Somerset Park after a deserved victory thanks to a David Gormley hat-trick, with Blair Henderson converting two penalties for Stirling to take his tally for the season to 10 goals.

Binos boss Dave Mackay made two changes from the 4-1 loss at Annan – skipper Ross McMillan replaced Scott Davidson and Andy Black came in for on-loan Rangers midfielder Josh Jeffries, who was ineligible.

Henderson fired us in front from the spot in just four minutes after Liam Caddis had been upended by keeper John Gibson, who escaped with a yellow card.

Gormley levelled 60 seconds later when his 30-yarder flew in off the bar despite Chris Smith getting a hand to the ball and the same player soon had Clyde 2-1 up, tapping in from close range after Peter MacDonald’s shot had been touched on to the post and rolled along the line.

We offered little response and Gormley completed his hat-trick shortly before the break when he got away from McMillan and smacked the ball high into the net from the corner of the six-yard box.

Clyde looked comfortable for most of the second half but we got back into it with 10 minutes to go when Gibson spilled a Sean Dickson drive and received a second yellow card for hauling down Darren Smith. Henderson coolly converted the kick past sub keeper Dylan Caddis.

We almost equalised in stoppage time when Chris Smith went up for a corner but the ball was scrambled clear and, in truth, it would have been an injustice if we had forced extra time.
