Albion earned a deserved draw against the Ladbrokes League 2 leaders on a freezing afternoon at Station Park.
Darren Smith fired us in front and Angus Beith missed a penalty before David Cox hauled the Loons level before half-time. Both sides hit the woodwork in the second half as we followed up last week’s win over Clyde with another impressive performance and result.
Chris Smith, Ross McGeachie, Moses Olanrewaju, Jack McCue, Ross Kavanagh and Callumn Morrison all missed out through injury as we sought revenge for 4-1 and 3-0 defeats to Gary Bollan’s men this season. Darren Smith came in for Kavanagh in the only the change to the team that saw off Clyde.
There were bits and pieces at both ends before we took the lead in 20 minutes. Willie Robertson’s low drive from outside the box came back off the base of the post with Grant Adam beaten and Darren Smith volleyed the rebound into the net for his fifth goal of the season.
It was a terrific finish and we had the chance to double our lead seven minutes later. Dylan Bikey’s pace saw him burst into the box and he was upended by Thomas O’Brien. Angus Beith, in the final game of his loan spell from Hearts, stepped up but his kick was weak and Adam saved easily.
Darren Smith then hit the side netting as we reacted well to the penalty miss but Forfar finished the half stronger and some slack defending allowed Cox to latch on to a loose ball and find the corner with an emphatic finish.
Bikey’s turn of speed continued to trouble the hosts in the second half and Forfar ended the day with five yellow cards for fouls on the Frenchman and winger Connor McLaren. Bikey hit the post from close range after a corner then Lewis Milne did likewise from at least 25 yards out at the other end.
We almost won it in the last minute when Bikey got in behind the defence but his shot flew just wide as it ended all square. In a crazy league, we are in sixth place – three points off the play-offs and three points off the bottom of the table.
