Albion hit back to win at home in Ladbrokes League 2 for the first time since beating Montrose in August as we moved off the foot of the table.
There are now six clubs separated by just three points and this was a crucial victory after recent away defeats to both Berwick Rangers and Edinburgh City.
Dave Mackay, who was without injured duo Jack McCue and Moses Olanrewaju, as well as Sean Dickson due to illness, made five changes to the side beaten at Meadowbank.
There were surprise starts for ex-Rangers left-back Jamie Mills and on-loan Hearts winger Callumn Morrison, Darren Petrie returned from suspension and Darren Smith partnered Ross Kavanagh up front. Ross Forsyth, Dickson, Marc McKenzie, Blair Henderson and Dylan Nguene Bikey dropped out.
The game couldn’t have got off to a worse start, with Ross Smith conceding a penalty for bringing down Aidan Smith after just 30 seconds at Forthbank.
Max Wright converted the spot-kick for Jim Chapman’s side, who had lost 5-1 at leaders Forfar in midweek but beat us 3-2 at Galabank on the opening day.
The equaliser arrived in 13 minutes when Angus Beith’s shot deflected off Darren Smith and beat keeper Blair Currie as the visitors appealed in vain for offside.
Four minutes later man of the match Ross McMillan headed home a Petrie corner to give us the lead and he came close again from an identical move before half-time.
Annan, who included former Hearts and striker Christian Nade as a trialist, enjoyed some decent possession in the second half but we made the game safe 15 minutes from time when substitute Nguene Bikey drilled a low shot beyond Currie after Morrison’s effort had been blocked following a good run into the box.
