A Dylan Nguene Bikey double wasn’t enough as Berwick ended their eight-match winless streak to claim all three points at a rain-lashed Shielfield on Tuesday night.
It was our first defeat in four matches under Dave Mackay and leaves us second from bottom in Ladbrokes League 2 ahead of Saturday’s game against Edinburgh City at Meadowbank Stadium.
Albion were twice ahead but were pegged back on both occasions before half-time and Jordyn Sheerin grabbed the clincher nine minutes from time.
On a night when the home side were awarded two penalties, Binos boss Mackay was sent to the stand in the closing stages and Darren Petrie received a second yellow card for protesting too loudly to referee Gavin Ross after the final whistle.
Marc McKenzie missed out through illness and there was a first start for Nguene Bikey in a 4-3-3 formation, which saw midfielder Willie Robertson included as a trialist for the third and final time.
The former Dieppe striker broke the deadlock in six minutes, accelerating away from a defender to drive a low shot past Kevin Walker but Berwick equalised immediately when ex-Bino Greg Hurst, on loan from St Johnstone, converted a cross from the right.
Nguene Bikey restored our lead midway through the half with a smart finish from the edge of the box after creating space for himself but the hosts were level when Calvin Colquhoun was penalised for a challenge on Hurst and Sheerin scored from the spot despite Chris Smith getting a hand to his kick.
Both teams sought a winner in the second half but we gave the ball away too often and Berwick carried a bit more threat. We were punished nine minutes from time when Sheerin gathered a throw-in and was allowed too much space to find the corner with a well-struck shot beyond Smith.
The ex-Livingston forward then had a chance to complete his hat-trick when the referee deemed he had been impeded by Ross McGeachie but Smith dived to his left to save the penalty.
