Stirling set up a Scottish Cup fourth-round meeting with Clyde or Arbroath at Forthbank on January 21 but we were pushed all the way by our Highland League opponents.
The game was never as comfortable as the score might suggest but we clinched a place in the last 32 for the fourth year running thanks to goals at the end of each half from Blair Henderson and new boy Dylan Nguene Bikey.
Binos boss Dave Mackay was able to call on Ross Forsyth after a long spell out injured and also handed a start to striker Ross Kavanagh, as well as giving a debut to on-loan Dundee midfielder Calvin Colquhoun, but was without Bryan Hodge due to illness and that was also the reason why Ross Smith replaced Ross McMillan at the interval.
Wick more than held their own in the opening half hour but we took the lead following a better spell before the break. Blair Henderson missed a good chance with a header but he claimed his seventh goal of the season after keeper Sean McCarthy failed to gather a cross.
The goal should have settled Stirling but Wick looked the likelier team for much of the second half and Chris Smith made a good save from a Gary Weir header before touching a Davie Allan shot on to the post when the Scorries looked set to equalise.
Former Dieppe striker Nguene Bikey caught the eye with his pace when he came on as a substitute and he found the corner from outside the box with a well-taken shot after 84 minutes.
Wick never gave up and won a penalty two minutes from time after Ross Smith pushed Steven Anderson but Sam Mackay’s weak effort was saved by the excellent Smith, who was probably our best player.
