Linlithgow Rose 0 Stirling Albion 3

Goals from Moses Olanrewaju, Marc McKenzie and Eddie Ferns booked our place in Tuesday’s Scottish Cup third-round draw as we came out on top at Prestonfield.

The scoreline suggests a comfortable victory but Linlithgow played well and created several good chances while we were clinical in front of goal.

There were two changes to the team that drew 0-0 with Berwick – Olanrewaju and Blair Henderson replaced Darren Smith (injured) and Isaac Layne, who was unavailable under the terms of his loan from Alloa. There was a first place in the squad for U20 striker Ross Cameron after his hat-trick at Livingston on Monday.

Ross Smith was suspended and Ross Forsyth still sidelined against a Rose side who included ex-Binos Robbie McNab, Gary Thom, Tommy Coyne and Kevin Kelbie, while Lewis Small and Graham Weir came off the bench.

Both teams had caretaker managers in charge – Martyn Corrigan for Albion and Todd Lumsden for Rose – for a tie played on a perfect autumn day in front of a big crowd.

The Junior side were the better team in the first half but Kelbie blazed over, Chris Smith denied Coyne and the same player was thwarted by a great block from skipper Ross McMillan.

We went ahead in 27 minutes when Olanrewaju was picked out by Ferns and he controlled the ball before firing past Darren Hill from close range.

Rose hit back strongly and we were fortunate to be ahead at the break but a second goal on the hour mark all but made the game safe. McKenzie ran clear and found the net with a confident low finish for his fifth goal of the season.

Still Rose didn’t give up – they were twice denied by the woodwork and Smith made some good saves, while at the other end sub Ross Kavanagh was thwarted by Hill.

Ferns drilled home the clincher in stoppage time to put a gloss on the scoreline as we notched up our third clean sheet on the trot.
