Lowland League champions Edinburgh City earned their first point as an SPFL club as we were held to a disappointing draw at Forthbank.
The result means we head for Station Park to play leaders Forfar Athletic next Saturday with just five points from our first five games in Ladbrokes League 2.
Skipper Ross McMillan headed us in front early in the second half but Ross Allum grabbed a well-struck equaliser for Gary Jardine’s team with six minutes remaining.
Binos boss Stuart McLaren made three changes to the team that lost 5-3 at Arbroath a fortnight ago, with Ross McGeachie, Scott Davidson and Marc McKenzie replacing David Verlaque, Ross Smith and the injured Bryan Hodge against a City side who included former Albion striker Craig Beattie among their subs.
We were the better team in the first half but failed to make the most of some good chances – Isaac Layne headed over early on and the on-loan Alloa forward was again too high with the finish after good work by Eddie Ferns created the opening.
Chris Smith made a superb save to keep out a header from Dean Cummings – brother of Hibs striker Jason – but we he generally carried more threat and Layne should have scored early in the second half, although keeper Calum Antell did well to deny him.
The opener came in 55 minutes when Ferns swung over a free-kick from the left flank and McMillan found the net with a glancing header for his first goal of the season.
We failed to push on but looked relatively comfortable with a one-goal lead, only for Allum to find the net with a terrific first-time drive into the corner, after being picked out by a deep cross, to end the capital club’s run of nine defeats in league and cup.
