Bobby Linn hit a second-half hat-trick as Arbroath triumphed in a Gayfield goal fest to climb to second in Ladbrokes League 2.
We came from behind to lead 2-1 early in the second half and rallied to make it 3-3 with 20 minutes left but, after Blair Henderson hit the post, Linn and Omar Kader sealed the points for Arbroath.
Binos boss Stuart McLaren made three changes to the team that beat Montrose 2-0 at Forthbank last week, with Ross Smith, Eddie Ferns and new loan signing Isaac Layne replacing Scott Davidson, Jack McCue and the injured Marc McKenzie, who joined Darren Petrie on the sidelines.
Ferns had a goal disallowed for offside before Dick Campbell’s men went ahead in 31 minutes when on-loan Dundee striker Josh Skelly pounced to score after a mistake from the ex-Alloa forward.
The equaliser wasn’t long in coming – Darren Smith’s shot struck defender Jassem Sukar and wrong-footed on-loan Aberdeen keeper Robbie Mutch.
Henderson fired us in front early in the second period after latching on to a long ball but Linn levelled at the back post before the hour mark then converted a penalty to put Arbroath ahead, although skipper Ross McMillan appeared to win the ball in the challenge with Skelly.
Ferns netted from close range despite appeals for offside to make it 3-3 but Linn, who has often caused us problems in the past, completed his hat-trick after an assist from Kader, who lashed a stunning strike into the top corner 12 minutes from time as we suffered our second away league defeat of the season.
