Second-half goals from Darren Smith and Marc McKenzie earned us our first win of the season in League 2.
After a poor first half that produced little of note from either team, Smith fired us in front just before the hour mark after Sean Dickson’s pass had been deflected into his path.
McKenzie, who joined us from Elgin in the summer, sealed a deserved victory in stoppage time with a stunning strike from 25 yards that flew into the top corner.
Binos boss Stuart McLaren made two changes to the team that drew 1-1 with Clyde. Scott Davidson replaced the suspended Ross Smith and Jack McCue started on the left of midfield in place of Eddie Ferns, who was on the bench.
New loan signing Callumn Morrison made his debut as a late substitute after joining from Hearts until January while Darren Petrie was again ruled out due to injury.
Montrose, who arrived at Forthbank on the back of a 1-1 draw with Arbroath at Links Park, were without injured former Stirling striker Chris Templeman.
The first half lacked tempo and neither keeper had much to do. The best chance fell to Blair Henderson after 38 minutes but he was denied by Jordan Millar in a one-on-one situation. Graham Webster headed narrowly over for Montrose but 0-0 was about right at the break.
The introduction of winger Moses Olanrewaju helped lift Stirling and Smith, who scored two hat-tricks against Montrose last season, pounced in 59 minutes after the ball fell kindly.
He then had a penalty appeal turned down after appearing to be nudged in the back by Michael Bolochoweckyj before Olanrewaju’s header was tipped over.
Montrose rarely looked like hitting back and Millar thwarted Smith before McKenzie scored his fourth goal of the season in added time, driving forward from midfield and unleashing a wonderful shot that sailed high into the net.
