Some of our more observant supporters will have noticed that our first-team and U20 Goalkeeping Coach, David Westwood, is also fulfilling the same role with the first team at Dunfermline Athletic F.C.
In the interests of keeping all Stirling Albion supporters informed, we consider it relevant to clarify the position from the Club’s perspective as well as that of David and the goalkeepers under his charge – namely, Chris Smith, Cammy Binnie and Ronan Fallens.
Given that Dunfermline are a full-time team and train during the day, there is very limited impact with our evening sessions on a Tuesday and Thursday. In respect of matches, David’s priority is to attend those of Dunfermline and any conflict with their midweek fixtures will be addressed as and when it arises.
David, Stuart (McLaren) and Martyn (Corrigan) fully consulted with our goalkeepers with regards to this matter and they were very strongly in agreement that the best outcome was that he remain in position, albeit in a reduced capacity. Chris is a very experienced keeper with a strong work ethic and Cammy and Ronan will want for nothing in respect of their personal development.
The Club Board was also consulted and fully sanctioned the decision to retain David’s services. The situation will be monitored as the season progresses but there is no doubt that the Club is a better place for David’s presence.
Should anyone wish to discuss the matter, in person, please contact the Club by e-mail or telephone in the first instance.
