With the announcement of the fixtures confirming we have been allocated a home match versus Falkirk on the opening day, despite a formal request to the SPFL to be either away or have a “free” date, we have been presented with the problem we had hoped to avoid, namely having a pitch to play on!
Stuart Brown, Chairman, discussed the matter last night with Neil Doncaster, SPFL Chief Executive, and has been assured that a number of clubs made similar requests and that it was simply not possible to accommodate them all.
Given that a reverse of the fixture (playing at Falkirk) isn’t an option under cup rules, we are left with the challenge of having the newly-sown surface ready for July 16.
The good news is that if anyone can achieve this it is our Groundsman, Graeme Glen, whose dedication, knowledge and desire to deliver a grass surface second to none, in Scotland, is undeniable and visible on a daily basis. The early signs at Forthbank, at ground level, are very encouraging.
The situation will be monitored very closely and regular updates provided. Falkirk FC have been contacted and fully apprised of this matter.
