Darren Smith hit a four-minute hat-trick as we equalled the second-biggest league win in our history by thrashing Montrose at Forthbank on Tuesday night.
Steven Doris grabbed a double and on-loan St Mirren midfielder Lewis McLear and Sean Dickson were also on target for Stuart McLaren’s men as we moved to within two points of the play-offs ahead of Saturday’s home game with Berwick Rangers.
This was the sixth time we have won a league game 7-0 but our record league victory remains the 9-1 triumph against East Stirlingshire in March 2013.
Willie Robertson replaced Aurelien Mazel in the one change from Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Arbroath as we sought our first win since December 19.
There wasn’t much between the teams for half an hour but we then scored three times before the break – Doris got the opener when he hooked the ball home following a Mark Lamont corner.
A superb run from midfield saw Darren Smith break into the box and he got between two defenders to prod the ball past on-loan Falkirk keeper Alex Tokarczyk before scoring the third with a header from a Lamont corner in first-half stoppage time.
The ex-Motherwell man, who also netted a hat-trick at Links Park in December, completed his treble 40 seconds after the interval with a terrific shot into the top corner from outside the box and McLear lashed home the fifth goal two minutes later.
Paul Hegarty’s side avoided further damage until the closing stages when Dickson found space in the box to slot the ball past Tokarczyk and Doris rounded things off from a Moses Olanrewaju cross a minute later for his 10th goal of the season.
