Our first league outing since January 2 ended all square at Forthbank in a game that provided decent entertainment despite the blank scoreline.
The result leaves us three points outside the play-offs while Queen’s Park stay second behind leaders Elgin City, who are five points clear at the summit.
Binos boss Stuart McLaren made two changes to the team beaten by Inverness Caley Thistle in the Scottish Cup replay on Tuesday.
Craig Beattie made his first start since August and Mark Lamont was restored to the side, with Craig Comrie and Aurelien Mazel dropping to the bench.
Phil Johnston played at right-back and there was a place among the subs for recent signing Scot Buist while skipper Willie Robertson was forced off early in the second half with a calf knock.
This was a game that could have gone either way but we came closest to scoring in 64 minutes when defender Ross Smith’s powerful header from Lamont’s superb cross came back off the underside of the bar.
Smith almost broke the deadlock shortly before half-time when a Lamont free-kick wasn’t cleared but keeper Willie Muir pulled off a fine save, although the former Stenhousemuir defender should probably have scored.
Lamont, who was named man of the match, almost scored direct from a corner but the ball struck the top of the bar and Queen’s Park keeper Muir made a good save from a Steven Doris free-kick early on while David Galt fired narrowly wide for Gus MacPherson’s men at the other end.
The Spiders had already beaten us twice this season and almost made it a hat-trick in the closing stages but Ryan Hynes shot weakly at Chris Smith and fellow substitute Joseph Bradley fired just wide following a corner.
The game ended in a bit of a melee, with referee Colin Steven dishing out two yellow cards to both sides following a flare-up on the far side of the pitch.
