An excellent second-half performance saw us come from behind to beat Elgin in challenging conditions and move to within one point of the play-offs.
League 2 top scorer Craig Gunn gave City the lead with a first-half penalty but Mark Lamont, Steven Doris and Darren Smith all struck after the break as we gained revenge for a 1-0 defeat at Borough Briggs back in August.
The severe weather saw nine SPFL matches called off but the Forthbank pitch was in superb condition despite the rain that fell incessantly throughout Saturday.
Stuart McLaren named the same team that had beaten Cumbernauld Colts 6-0 in the Scottish Cup – to set up a home tie with holders Inverness Caley Thistle – in the day’s only fixture in Ladbrokes League 2.
Elgin had the elements behind them in the first half but there was little to report before the visitors took the lead in 21 minutes. A defensive slip allowed Dylan Easton to get clear and, although he was thwarted by a fine save from Chris Smith, the keeper then upended the former St Johnstone midfielder.
Gunn buried the spot-kick low inside the right-hand post for what was his seventh goal in five appearances at Forthbank – he has never failed to score here.
Easton then headed wide and Marc McKenzie had an effort disallowed for offside but it was a different story in a second half we largely dominated.
Man of the match Lamont equalised eight minutes after the break, driving into the box and finding the far corner with a low drive for his first Albion goal.
Doris headed us in front with 10 minutes left after a perfect cross from Lamont, the ball going in off the bar for his eighth goal of the season.
Darren Smith got No 3, lashing the ball past Mark Hurst for his first goal of 2015/16, after another Lamont assist, as we made it three wins out of four in the league.
