It’s back to SPFL business on Saturday when we welcome Elgin City to Forthbank in Ladbrokes League 2.
We go into the game following a 6-0 win over Cumbernauld Colts on Tuesday, which set up a home tie with Scottish Cup holders Inverness CT on January 9.
Elgin head south on the back of a 2-1 home defeat to Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup but have already beaten us twice this season.
Team news: Skipper Ross McMillan remains out with a hamstring injury and the game comes too soon for winger Phil Johnston, who is close to a return after knee surgery. Binos boss Stuart McLaren reports no new injury worries in the wake of Tuesday’s Scottish Cup tie.
Opponents: Elgin are third in the table and are the top scorers in Ladbrokes League 2 – Jim Weir’s men are three places and five points ahead of us. Assistant manager Gavin Price was at our game during the week. Elgin’s success this season has been largely due to their outstanding home form – six wins and a draw – but their only away league victory so far was at Arbroath on the opening day. City striker Craig Gunn is the leading scorer in League 2 with 11 goals.
Past meetings: Elgin have already beaten us twice at Borough Briggs this season – 3-2 in the first round of the Petrofac Training Cup and 1-0 in Ladbrokes League 2. The last meeting at Forthbank was a 2-2 draw in April 2014. Elgin are unbeaten on their past four visits to Stirling, although three of those were draws. Our last home win in this fixture was 2-1 in a Scottish Cup tie in November 2005 – Ross Forsyth and Paddy Connolly scored our goals.
