An outstanding second-half performance saw us come from behind to extend our unbeaten run to seven games and move to within two points of the play-offs.
Bobby Linn gave the visitors a first-half lead but Willie Robertson equalised early in the second half and goals from Ross Smith and Steven Doris (penalty) turned the game round despite keeper Chris Smith being sent off just after the hour mark with the score at 1-1.
The Red Lichties also ended with 10 men after Ricky Little saw red for dissent deep into stoppage time as they lost at Forthbank for only the second time in 15 visits.
There was a minute’s silence before the match following the tragic events in Paris and the game went ahead on an immaculate playing surface despite the heavy recent rain.
Stuart McLaren was forced into one change from the team that won 2-1 at Berwick, with Ross Smith returning from suspension to replace the unavailable Ross Forsyth.
The game was open and entertaining from the start and both David Verlaque and Kevin McKinlay had efforts cleared off the line either side of a bad miss by Bobby Linn.
Arbroath always looked a threat and Linn broke the deadlock in 20 minutes with a precise shot from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner but it took a superb save from Allan Fleming to tip over a Doris header as half-time approached.
Our response to being behind at the interval was hugely impressive and Sandy Cunningham had a header cleared off the line before Robertson converted a perfect cross from Verlaque – who had been picked out by Doris – 10 minutes after the break.
We were on top now but when Craig Comrie conceded possession, Linn raced clear down the right and was felled by Chris Smith just outside the box – there could be few complaints about the red card issued by referee Colin Steven.
Cammy Binnie, our U20 keeper, came on and dealt well with what the visitors had to offer but, even with 10 men, we always looked more likely to score and Ross Smith headed us in front with his first Albion goal in 78 minutes after a perfect Doris cross.
It was Doris who sealed the win from the spot four minutes later after Verlaque had been impeded in the box as we climbed to sixth in Ladbrokes League 2.
