Saturday 9.00am update – despite the heavy rain of recent days there are no issues with the pitch at Forthbank and it’s very much game on.
Stirling Albion welcome Arbroath to Forthbank on Saturday looking to extend our unbeaten run to seven matches and having climbed to seventh in Ladbrokes League 2 on the back of a 2-1 win over Berwick Rangers at Shielfield.
We are a point ahead of the Gayfield side but have a terrible recent home record against Arbroath, with just one win – 5-2 on the opening day of 2004/05 – in 14 attempts over the last 15 years. Hopefully that will count for nothing this weekend!
Team news: Defender Ross Smith is available after a two-match ban but skipper Ross McMillan faces three months out with a hamstring injury. Phil Johnston and Craig Beattie remain on the sidelines but the latter is closing in on a return to action.
Opponents: Like ourselves, Arbroath made a poor start to the season but they have lost only two of their last seven games. Todd Lumsden’s side head for Forthbank having drawn 1-1 at home to East Fife last weekend. Craig Watson scored for the Red Lichties while Andy Ryan played his last game on loan from Hamilton Accies.
Past meetings: Arbroath won 2-0 at Gayfield back in September thanks to goals early in the second half from Sergio Alvarez and Bobby Linn. The last meeting at Forthbank was a 1-1 draw in March 2012 – Scott Davidson gave us a first-half lead but Josh Falkingham equalised in the last minute.
