Goals from David Verlaque and Steven Doris earned us our first win at Shielfield since October 2004 as Stuart McLaren’s men extended their unbeaten run to six games.
Ewan McNeil reduced the deficit with a stunning free-kick but we held on comfortably to move to within three points of the top four.
It was a hard-fought victory, against a Berwick side who beat us 3-1 at Forthbank, on a surface that stood up well to several hours of rain, which eased ahead of kick-off.
Willie Robertson returned from suspension but Ross Smith was banned and Ross McMillan joined Phil Johnston and Craig Beattie on the injury list.
The Borderers had new boss John Coughlin watching from the stand as U20 coach Myles Allan took the team following the departure of Colin Cameron last week.
Chances were at a premium in the opening half hour then Sandy Cunningham fired narrowly over but it was the hosts who finished the half strongly.
Blair Henderson had the ball in the net, only to be denied by an offside flag, then the ex-Dunfermline striker was unlucky to see his header from a McNeil cross come back off the post and into the arms of Chris Smith.
The game looked very much in the balance at the break but two goals in the space of five minutes early in the second half had us in control.
Former Queen’s Park and Morton full-back Verlaque broke the deadlock with his first Albion goal in 54 minutes when he was released down the right and drove on and beat keeper Kevin Walker with a low shot into the far corner.
Doris added the second when he latched on to a perfect through pass and kept his cool to knock the ball beyond Walker for his fourth goal of the season.
Ex-Rangers and Brechin right-back McNeil gave Berwick hope when he found the top corner with a terrific free kick from all of 30 yards.
That ended our run of four successive clean sheets but we defended well thereafter and Berwick rarely look like grabbing an equaliser.
The closest thing came at the other end when substitute Darren Smith forced a fine save from Walker with a powerful drive 10 minutes from time.
