Our wait for a win this season goes on after Berwick Rangers bounced back from last week’s 5-0 thrashing at East Fife to take the points.
Only Arbroath sit below us in the early Ladbrokes League 2 table as we prepare to travel to leaders Elgin – one of six teams on six points.
Berwick had lost on their previous five visits to Forthbank but Colin Cameron’s side recovered from a slow start to claim a comfortable victory and it will be a year next weekend since we kept a clean sheet – in a 0-0 draw at Airdrie.
Binos boss Stuart McLaren made three changes to the side that drew 1-1 at Annan. Ross Forsyth replaced the suspended Kevin McKinlay, Ross Smith came in for Ross McGeachie and Sandy Cunningham was in for Jon Paul McGovern, who was left out.
Former Partick Thistle player Corey Irvine – who looks set to join the U20 squad – was on the bench as a trialist and two substitutes were required by the start of the second half, with Steven Doris and Conor McKenzie coming on for the injured Craig Beattie and Phil Johnston.
Berwick boss Cameron, 43 in October, restored himself to the starting XI in the wake of their heavy defeat at Bayview.
Stirling started this game well enough and McMillan had a header tipped over before Sean Dickson missed a sitter, scuffing a shot wide when he looked certain to score.
Sandy Cunningham then had an effort disallowed for offside and it looked like a goal was coming… unfortunately it was at the other end.
McMillan allowed Michael McKenna to break down the right wing and his cross was diverted into his own net by the backtracking Craig Comrie for a bizarre own goal six minutes before half-time.
Worse was to come. Two minutes later Darren Lavery picked out Finn Graham and the ex-Dunfermline man steered a shot in off the left-hand post.
Blair Henderson headed against the post before ending the contest completely when he swept home a cross from the right midway through the second half.
Willie Robertson pulled one back with an angled drive beyond Mark Walters – standing in for the suspended Kevin Walker – but the visitors could have added to their lead in the closing stages had it not been for a couple of smart stops from Chris Smith.
