A much more experienced Alloa side beat Stirling Albion’s U20s in the first round of the Stirlingshire Cup at the Indodrill Stadium on Monday evening.
The home team included the likes of Omar Kader, Kyle McAusland and Graeme Holmes while U20 coaches Ross Forsyth and Andy Todd fielded a young team, who gave a good account of themselves.
Jason Marr headed the Wasps in front from a Steven Hetherington corner in 32 minutes and Isaac Layne added the second from close range just before half-time after Cammy Binnie had made a good stop from an overhead kick.
Binnie made a terrific save to keep out a penalty from substitute Scott Hynd after Lee McLelland had been tripped and winger Tommy McAllister pulled one back 30 seconds from the end when his deflected effort beat Alloa keeper Andy McNeil.
We then had a stoppage-time penalty appeal waved away as Alloa booked a semi-final place against holders Stenhousemuir.
