There is Friday night football at Forthbank as we take on Oldham Athletic in a friendly, kick-off 7.30pm. We go into the match on the back of an impressive 2-1 win over Hearts in the Supporters Direct Cup on Tuesday and are looking for another positive performance ahead of next weekend’s Petrofac Training Cup tie away to Elgin City.
Team news: Defender Mark Staunton is unavailable and midfielder Darren Lee Smith is out injured but Kevin McKinlay could feature as he recovers from a calf knock. Salim Kouider-Aissa, who got the winner against Hearts, is again likely to play as a trialist.
Opponents: Oldham have been based at Stirling University this week and were beaten 1-0 by St Mirren in a closed-door game there on Wednesday. Darren Kelly’s side have home friendlies against Bolton and Blackburn to come and begin their League 1 campaign away to Walsall on August 8.
The last time: We beat Oldham 2-1 in a friendly at Forthbank on Saturday August 3, 1996 when Kevin Drinkell was our manager and we had just won the Division Two title. Alex Bone (penalty) and John Gibson were our scorers but the visitors were hampered by the fact Nicky Henry had been sent off for conceding that spot-kick in just five minutes. Gunnar Halle pulled one back late on.
Admission: Adults £5; Seniors, Students & U17s £3; U12s FREE
Segregation: Oldham fans will be housed at the Monument End of the West Stand so there will be no dedicated Family Enclosure for this fixture.
Season tickets: Valid for the Oldham game and on sale from 6.30pm in the foyer at Forthbank. Cash payment would be greatly appreciated as our location is away from the card readers.
Club shop: Open before and after the game – find us in the West Stand behind turnstiles 1&2. New away kit is available.
Twitter: Updates will be available @Stirling_Albion
Programme: On sale before the game
Referee: Craig Napier
Next game: Elgin City v Stirling Albion – Petrofac Training Cup – 25/07/15
