Second-half goals from Jamie McCluskey and Declan McManus earned Morton a comfortable victory in our penultimate home game of the season.
We started well and matched the title hopefuls in the first half but, not for the first time, then conceded from a corner and a second goal just before the hour mark settled the issue.
The result means Morton have won all four games against the Binos this season and have moved to within a point of new leaders Stranraer, who they face in a massive match at Stair Park next weekend.
Binos boss Stuart McLaren handed starts to U20 keeper Cammy Binnie and striker Chris Paton, while U20 top scorer Greg Hurst was rewarded for his excellent recent form with a first-team debut as a substitute.
Lee Hamilton missed out through suspension, Callum Reidford was unavailable due to work commitments and Willie Robertson was ruled out through injury, as were Steven Doris and Lewis Coult.
We started well and Paton had a great chance to open the scoring in just six minutes when the ball broke to him in the box but his shot was blocked by Derek Gaston.
The Morton keeper also made good saves from Gordon Smith and Phil Johnston before the visitors came more into the game.
They should have gone ahead after Binnie pushed Mark Russell’s effort on to the bar but Ross Caldwell headed the rebound over with the goal gaping.
Jamie McCluskey made the breakthrough in 53 minutes when he pounced from close range after a header had been cleared off the line following a corner.
It was all over six minutes later – Craig Comrie was caught on the ball and on-loan Aberdeen striker McManus ran through to score with a low shot.
Andy Stirling almost pulled one back after a great run into the Morton area but Gaston was equal to his finish and Jim Duffy’s men saw the game out.
