Stirling Albion make the journey north to Peterhead on Saturday as we bid to continue our good start to 2015, which saw a 2-1 win at Stenhousemuir followed up by a 2-2 draw against Dunfermline at Forthbank – when we were denied our first home league victory of the season by a stoppage-time equaliser.
Team news: Striker Lewis Coult starts a two-match ban after being sent off against Dunfermline last week. Darren Lee Smith remains sidelined following knee sugery and Steven Doris and Graham Weir are also set to miss out. Peterhead are without recent signing Nicky Riley, who joined from Dundee, but should otherwise be at full strength.
Opponents: The Blue Toon lost their last home game 4-1 to Stranraer a month ago – their December 27 clash with Forfar at Balmoor was postponed – but have moved to within four points of the play-offs with recent wins at Morton (1-0) and Airdrie (3-1) either side of a 1-1 draw at Dunfermline. Along with Stranraer and Morton, Peterhead have won most away games (five) in League 1 while their home record is two wins, four draws and two defeats.
Past meetings: It was 1-1 on the opening day of the season when Rory McAllister’s late equaliser cancelled out Gordon Smith’s second-half goal. Jim McInally’s side came out on top 3-2 at Forthbank on December 6 with goals from Bryan Gilfillan, Phil Johnston (own goal) and Cammy Kerr. Steven Doris and Sandy Cunningham replied. We drew twice at Balmoor in 2012/13 and memorably won 4-0 there last April on the day Peterhead received the League 2 trophy but we went down 3-1 to a Rory McAllister hat-trick on our other trip to the North East just before Christmas.
