To do it justice, I doubt everything that’s happened in the last four weeks could be fitted into the entire November Magazine, let alone Inside the Box, so apologies for this abbreviated résumé.
We’ve already had a home fixture this month – the Scottish Cup 3rd-round replay versus Hurlford United – and what an occasion and baptism of fire for our new Management Team that turned out to be!
A truly remarkable game that, as I’ve already put on record, we were extremely fortunate to be staging based on the first game the previous week at Blair Park.
Every credit must go to Hurlford who gave it everything but ultimately came up just short when Callum Reidford tipped their 14th spot kick around the post and Steven Doris did the necessary from 12 yards (after being the only culprit for us, first time around).
Saturday’s replay means we have gone from having only one home fixture in November to three, as we look forward to entertaining Raith Rovers in the 4th Round on the 29th to add to our SPFL1 fixture against Stranraer.
The usual SAFC welcome is extended to everyone associated with both Clubs but hopefully that will be the extent of our hospitality as we set about trying to get our first home league win and a place in the Scottish Cup 5th-round draw.
Tuesday evening’s away fixture versus Brechin City proved to be a tale of what might have been – if Gordon Smith had scored from the spot – but the history books will show we came away with nothing, aside from plenty of positives in respect of a much improved performance.
It’s early days but I’ve no doubt we’ve made the right choice in Stuart McLaren as our new manager and in turn, he’s picked the right man in Martyn Corrigan, as his assistant.
I know I can rely on our faithful band of Bino diehards to get right behind them, as they set about the challenge of getting us to a position of safety in the League, with progression in the Scottish Cup being a welcome bonus.
The Executive Board aren’t expecting overnight fixes and I would ask fans to be patient as well. Based on the evidence so far, we are heading in the right direction.
