Captain Darren Smith and Ross Forsyth are in charge of the team for Saturday’s crucial League 1 clash against Airdrieonians at Forthbank following the resignation of manager Greig McDonald last weekend.
We go into the game on a seven-match winless run but a victory would see us move level on points with Gary Bollan’s men.
Team news: Willie Robertson begins a two-match ban after being sent off in last week’s 4-0 defeat to Stenhousemuir. Fellow midfielder Craig Comrie, who hasn’t played since our last meeting with Airdrie, is still out and striker Lewis Coult is also sidelined. Winger Phil Johnston could return to the squad after a long absence but David McClune is doubtful after a bout of flu.
Opponents: Airdrie have picked up after a slow start to the season and have lost just one of their last five games. That sequence includes wins over Ayr United (3-2) and Brechin City (4-0). They hit back to draw 1-1 at Peterhead last weekend thanks to a Keigan Parker penalty. Since our last meeting, they have brought in defender Luca Gasparotto, on loan from Rangers, midfielder Scott Fraser, on loan from Dundee United, and ex-Dumbarton striker Bryan Prunty.
Past meetings: It was 0-0 at the Excelsior Stadium at the end of August when both sides twice hit the woodwork. Aside from the memorable play-off victory in 2006/07 we haven’t had too much joy against the Diamonds of late, losing three of the four league meetings in 2011/12.
