Stirling Albion complete the first quarter of the League 1 campaign against Morton at Cappielow on Saturday, with a 1.00pm kick-off due to Scotland’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Georgia at Ibrox later in the day.
We head for Greenock having lost just once away from home in the league since March, a 2-0 defeat to Stranraer at Stair Park a fortnight ago.
Team news: Central defender Craig Wedderburn is suspended after being sent off in the 2-0 defeat to Dunfermline last week. Winger Phil Johnston and midfielder Craig Comrie, who haven’t played since August, remain on the injury list.
Opponents: Morton have slipped to fifth place in the table after losing their last two games away to Stenhousemuir and Brechin but they have won all three home games so far, against Stranraer, Airdrie and Dunfermline. Jim Duffy’s men reached the quarter-finals of the Petrofac Training Cup but went down 1-0 to Alloa at Cappielow, Ryan McCord scoring in the last minute.
Past meetings: The most recent encounter was on the final day of 2010/11 when we ended a 25-match winless streak with a 3-2 victory at Forthbank, helped by a Stephen Stirling double. Our last visit to Cappielow was for a midweek match in April 2011. Morton won 2-0 thanks to an own goal from Ross Forsyth and a David O’Brien effort. Chris Aitken was sent off late on. Our last victory in Greenock was 2-1 on October 25, 2005 and was our first win of the season!
