We make our first trip to Stranraer since 2009 on Saturday to face Stephen Aitken’s side, with both teams having picked up six points from their first six games.
The Blues include a number of former Binos in their squad – Chris Aitken, Steven Bell, Stephen Stirling and Scott Robertson – and reached the promotion play-offs in 2013/14, losing out to Dunfermline in the semi-finals.
Team news: Winger Phil Johnston and midfielder Craig Comrie again miss out and Graham Weir is also sidelined after suffering a neck injury.
Opponents: Stranraer won 2-0 at Ayr recently and drew 3-3 at Airdrie last week – they are above us on goal difference in the League 1 table. Stephen Aitken’s side beat Falkirk 1-0 in their last home match to set up a Petrofac Training Cup semi-final at Livingston on October 12. Including cup ties, Saturday will be Stranraer’s ninth home game out of 12 this season.
Match facts: We are unbeaten in our last eight away league games since losing 1-0 at Clyde on March 15. Our most recent away match was a 0-0 draw against Airdrie at the Excelsior Stadium on August 30. Gordon Smith is our top scorer this season with six goals, followed by Sandy Cunningham and Darren Lee Smith on three apiece.
Past meetings: The last meeting was at Forthbank in April 2009 when Stranraer won 2-1 thanks to a late Michael Moore goal. Our most recent visit to Stair Park was a memorable one, Chris Hamilton scoring a second-half hat-trick as we stormed to an 8-2 victory in January 2009. Our first trip to the south west that season resulted in a 1-0 defeat and we lost twice at Stair Park in 2006/07. Doubles from Chris Aitken and Nicky Walker helped us coast to a 6-0 Scottish Cup victory in November 2007.
